So the daily surprises that are no longer surprises kept me from the show until almost noon. Meetings, emails, teleconferences from what would, in the real world be considered "noisy" but which actually was rather quiet relatively. I've theoretically been at the show for two days and I've gotten to actually walk it for about nine total hours.

But it all ended and I was free once again. While I wanted to hit South Hall again to finish up with games I hadn't learned enough about yet, it was my duty to actually, you know, see the other 2/3 of the show. To Kentia and West I did go.

So it's that time of year again. Time to dust off the camera, brush up on your inner geek and get ready for the year's biggest arcade game. Yes folks, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is in full swing, and so far it has been pretty interesting.

The latest issue of The Escapist features an Interview with Richard and Robert Garriot, they being of all sorts of fame, including everything from Ultima to NC Soft US.

The article featured many different discussions, from the state of the genre, to the history of it, to the business end of things. The topic I found most poignant though was Robert's commentary on "churn" (players leaving an MMOG) and how that doesn't always need to be a bad thing.

For them. Continue reading Churn can be good…

WoW Expansion set for Fall?

The most recent issue of PC Gamer (No. 147b) features an article about 68 MMOs set to launch or expand in the near term. Of course they cover WoW's Burning Legion expansion. There's only two paragraphs about it, containing the same stuff we've known all along. But they seemed to drop a hint about a release time-frame.Here's the line that makes me wonder: "…it's first expansion pack, The Burning Legion, is being readied for release this fall,…" This fall, to me, means they want to be on store shelves around the time stores hit their "fall sets". That's usually August or September, with the goal of course being to bank on the holiday sales. But that also coule be all the way up until the end of November too. I could be wrong of course. Oh, and does it bother anyone else that we've known about this expansion for six months and still there's no information about the Alliance race? Makes me wonder if they're just going to unveil it at E3 as their big event announcement.
