This past Monday over at F13, Evangolis posted some thoughts on abjectives ascribed to high end guilds in these games. Their proposal was to shift thinking away from such derogatory terms as "uber" and "catass" and think more along the lines of how these guilds functioned.

Their thought was to consider these guilds "Focused". I completely agree. Here's why:

Character Obsolescence and Exile

We've all been there. We play a game, we love a game, we master a game, we quit a game. However, rare is it we delete our characters and inventory, figuring there's a chance we'll come back some day, or simply because it's hard to willingly delete the cumulative reward of months or years of play.

So we leave, play, love, master and quit other games until that earlier game starts to look a bit better than when we left.

So we come back. And, among other things, we quickly assess the relevance of our character and equipment in a world that may have considerably changed since we left. What we find can be tied directly to the duration of our exile, and the type of game it is.

Fighting Darkstar One

Returning from a week in Delaware, and the family all sound asleep, I was eager to start playing a new demo listed on GameSpot right before I left.
